Facebook and Instagram suffer another global outage
Facebook and Meta-owned Instagram went down on Tuesday, with many users of the platforms reporting problems with both the websites and mobile apps.
What we know so far
The outage began shortly after 10:00am GMT, and it affected users around the world. As of 12:00pm GMT, the services remain down. Meta has not yet commented on the outage.
Possible causes
Meta has not yet disclosed the cause of the outage, but there are a number of possible explanations, including:
Meta's Chief Technology Officer, Mike Schroepfer, has tweeted that the company is "working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible."
The outage is the second major disruption to Meta's services in recent months. In October 2021, the company's services were down for more than six hours, affecting billions of users. That outage was caused by a "configuration change," according to Meta.
We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
