Guardians Clinch 2nd AL Central Title In Past 3 Years

What Happened?

For a second time in the last three years, the Cleveland Guardians have clinched the AL Central. Tuesday night, the Guardians defeated the Texas Rangers 10-4 in Arlington, Texas to clinch the division for 2022.

How They Did It

Amed Rosario's two-run single in the third inning gave the Guardians the lead, but it was Andres Gimenez's two-run home run in the fifth inning that broke the game open and put the Rangers away.

Triston McKenzie started for the Guardians and pitched 5.1 innings while allowing just three runs on five hits to earn the victory. The Guardians' bullpen then came in and pitched 3.2 scoreless innings allowing just two hits.

What It Means

With their division title, the Guardians have now clinched a spot in the 2022 MLB playoffs. They will play in the ALDS against the winner of the AL Wild Card Game between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Toronto Blue Jays.

What's Next

The Guardians will now have a few days off before starting their ALDS series either next Tuesday or Wednesday depending on the outcome of the Wild Card Game. The Guardians will be looking to make a deep run in the playoffs this year, and they will be a tough team to beat.
